Prepare for the New School Year During the Tax Free Weekend
Already starting to receive your back to school lists? You may be tempted to do you school shopping now, but if you wait for the weekend of August 3rd through the 5th to get out of your apartment in Lake Mary, FL and go to the stores, many of your items will be tax free! That weekend is Florida’s tax holiday, so that parents and students can save money on their items.
So what’s covered? Most clothing under $75 will be exempt, but you should review the list of qualifying items before shopping so you know exactly what counts. Almost anything worn on or around the body is included, but certain accessories like watches, jewelry, handkerchiefs, and umbrellas are excluded. Some sporting goods are as well, but this gets a little fuzzy. Baseball cleats are included, but baseball gloves are excluded.
Certain school supplies under $15 are included as well. This covers a slew of items like legal pads, filler paper, pencils, crayons, and calculators. But you should be aware that it doesn’t cover some things that are sure to be on your list, like printer paper, but don’t worry — almost everything else is covered.
How are you planning on saving extra?
