For residents of Pebble Creek at Lake Mary apartments considering a new furry addition to their families, here are some of the top adoptable dogs for the month of April through Petfinder:

Pet Name: Dill the Spice Puppy
Breed: Beagle
Age: Baby
Male or Female: M
Size: M

These sweet puppies and their mother were abandoned on the side of the road. A concerned volunteer saw them and brought them to us! They are so cute and based off what their mother looks like we suspect they are hound mixes (Beagle or possibly Treeing Walker Coonhound). Won’t you give these sweet puppies a home?

Pet Name: Pumba the Precious Piggy
Breed: Basset Hound
Age: Senior
Male or Female: M
Size: M

Pumba is a…?? He is a dog but looks closer to the Lion King character Pumba with longer hair! He is so sweet and loving! He is a bit older, grey hair around the muzzle, missing some teeth but he is so loving that we couldn’t help but want to save him. He requires medicated baths and anti-itch pills to keep his skin and ear infections under control.  He also requires a thyroid pill once daily for the rest of his life but it’s very inexpensive.

Pumba qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program!  If adopted by a senior (55+) his adoption fee is $50.

Pet Name: Sugar the Hound/Beagle Mamma
Breed: Beagle
Age: Adult
Male or Female: F
Size: M

This Momma dog was found by a great volunteer. She has been a great momma to her babies. We named her and her pups after spices because she is so sweet!

Like many dogs in the South, Sugar is heartworm positive, but don’t let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating him with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.PRBJtreats ALL of our dogs with monthly Heartworm preventative. HW+ dogs are treated with the recommended slow method, using monthly HW preventative as it is gentler on the animal’s system than the more invasive, injection method. Most dogs that are Heartworm positive can lead healthy, normal lives if the disease is caught early and treatment began. There are different options to treat HW and new owners may choose to redirect their type of treatment with direction of their vet.All HW+ dogs have a HW slow treatment info sheet in their adoption folder which will be provided to new owners.

Pet Name: Cypress the Hound Mix
Breed: Boxer
Age: Adult
Male or Female: M
Size: L

Cypress came to us after being found by some kids at a local ballpark.  He can be fearful in new situations (as many rescues are) and can nip if grabbed by someone he doesn’t know.  However, once trust is established, he is a great companion.  Cypress is very playful and loves other dogs!

Pet Name: Lucy the Loving Senior Beagle
Breed: Beagle
Age: Senior
Male or Female: F
Size: M

Lucy and her sibling Roxie are looking for home after their lifetime owner developed brain cancer and could no longer care for them.  Imagine how hard that must be, dealing with such a terrible disease AND having to part with your pets?  It truly is heart wrenching. These two pups are so sweet and full of life. They would definitely love to be adopted together ~ gosh, they’re so easy, together they don’t equal the work of one puppy! Below is what their owner had to say about Lucy:

‘Lucy is a 15 inch beagle who was born in August of ’04. She’s the typical lazy beagle who loves kids and loves to be played with or cuddled up to at night.  Being 8 yrs old they still love to stretch their legs and run.  Being together pretty much their entire lives I would love to see them adopted out together, but I know that’s hard to do.’

Pet Name: Teddy the Young at Heart Cocker Spaniel
Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: Senior
Male or Female: M
Size: M

Teddy came to us when his time was up at a shelter. What a shame! He is a beautiful, black, purebred Cocker Spaniel. He is very playful and friendly, but is not too fond of his crate. Won’t you take him home?

Teddy qualifies for our senior for senior program. If adopted by a senior person (55+) then his adoption fee is only $75.

Pet Name: Whitley the Plott Hound
Breed: Plott Hound
Age: Adult
Male or Female: F
Size: L

Whitley came to us from a county shelter where her time was up. She is a very sweet girl but also very shy. She would do best in a home with other dogs. She is in a foster home right now and is a great girl. She is young and playful and should be crated when left alone so she doesn’t chew things she’s not supposed to. She likes Nylabones and tennis balls and is very happy go lucky. She gets a little shy in new situations and the best way to help her overcome this is to keep introducing her to new people, places and things. That’s where the other dogs come in – she seems to learn from them and become more at ease seeing them relax and have fun. Whitley is an absolute sweetheart who just needs patient adopters who will keep helping her overcome her shyness!

Pet Name: Big Boy the Black Lab/ Retriever Mix
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Age: Adult
Male or Female: M
Size: L

Big Boy came to us after his owner could no longer keep him. He was rasied in a pretty limited environment, as he was chained up in a garage most of his life. Due to being raised like this he isn’t very socialized and can be protective of his home. He was also never crate trained and can react strongly to being kenneled. Due to this Big Boy has his own little room in the shelter and does well running loose in his room. We are looking for a loving home that will help him become more socialized but will also have a calm, child free enviroment for him to feel comfortable in. Big Boy was not raised around other dogs so we would like him to go to a home were he can be the only dog!

Pet Name: Paisley the Basset/Blue Tick
Breed: Basset Hound
Age: Young
Male or Female: M
Size: M

Paisley was shot by a gentleman who ‘was afraid for his life’. This dog is the nicest dog i have ever met. We x-rayed him and the bullet is not in a life threathing place and he is fine.  Luckily it didn’t do any permanent damage and he is almost back to a normal walk.  He is a very sweet and any Hound lover will be in love with his sweet outgoing personality.

Pet Name: Holly the Happy Princess
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Age: Adult
Male or Female: F
Size: M

Holly was found as a stray and was very skinny but we’ve managed to fatten her up!  She is very calm and laid back — great with people and dogs, although she can become anxious in the presence of too many people or pets at once. She is ready for whatever life brings her, including her forever home.  Holly wants someone to love who will love her just as much in return.
